$50 billion loan for Ukraine at G7, India encourages 'human-centric approach'

PM Narendra Modi reitariates a "human-centric approach" to the Ukraine conflict during the G7 Summit in southern Italy's Apulia. On Friday, he held a series of bilateral meetings with leaders, including UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Pope is also expected to meet Modi for bilateral talks.

"The leaders reviewed bilateral relationship and exchanged views on situation in Ukraine. PM conveyed that India continues to encourage peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) spokesperson said in a post on X.

G7 leaders have agreed to a new $50 billion loan for Ukraine, using profits from frozen Russian assets. US President Joe Biden said this move showed Moscow that “we're not backing down.” Biden and Zelensky signed a 10-year security agreement to bolster Ukraine's defense and help it move closer to NATO membership. Biden stressed that the G7 leaders are united and determined, sending a clear message to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The G7 leaders also expressed support for a truce and hostage deal in the ongoing Hamas-Israel conflict. Biden mentioned that the main obstacle has been Hamas's refusal to agree.
